The Healthy Kids Program focuses on providing education on healthy eating and increasing physical fitness levels for children, youth, and families. The program implements culture-based activities to enhance the well-being and traditional knowledge of urban Indigenous children and their families.
Program Goal:
The Healthy Kids Program goal is to positively impact and improve the health and well-being of urban Indigenous children and youth through the provision of healthy eating and active living activities, culture-based approaches to wellness education and promotion of lifestyle choices for children, youth and their families.
Program Objectives:
- Increase access and availability of healthy food for children, youth, and families.
- Increase awareness and provide education on healthy food to children, youth, and families.
- Increase children and youth’s physical activity rate through access to recreational, physical fitness and sport activities.
- Increase recreation and sport activities that incorporate traditional cultural activities.
Program Outcomes:
- Increase health benefits due to healthier food for Indigenous children, youth, and families.
- Increase awareness and education on healthy eating and healthy living through a variety of teaching methods for children, youth, and families.
- Increase physical activity rates due to improved access to recreational, physical fitness and sport programs.
